What Sets the Price of a Policy

Life insurance is priced on you, not on a menu. The same coverage can cost two people very different amounts. Here is what moves the number most.

Your quote is free and comes after a few health questions by phone. The final price is set by the carrier once underwriting is done, and we walk you through any change so you can accept it or walk away.

Your age
Rates go up with each birthday. That is one reason keeping an older policy can be cheaper than buying a new one at today's age.
Health and tobacco use
Carriers look at medical history, current medications, height and weight, and nicotine use. These decide your rate class, which has a big effect on cost.
Coverage amount
More coverage costs more, but not in a straight line. Larger amounts sometimes price better per thousand dollars of coverage.
Policy type and term length
Term life tends to be the lowest-cost choice, since the coverage stops when the term runs out. Permanent policies like whole life and universal life carry bigger premiums because they are meant to stay in force for good and can grow cash value. Length matters too. Locking in rates for 30 years costs more than locking them in for 10.
Riders you add
Add-ons raise the premium. Common ones keep your premiums paid if you become disabled, let you tap funds early during a terminal illness, or extend some coverage to your kids. We help you keep the ones you will use and skip the rest.

Life Insurance and Planning We Handle

We write term life insurance for people who need a lot of coverage for a set number of years, and whole life and universal life insurance for people who want coverage that lasts. Final expense insurance covers funeral costs and small debts. Mortgage protection insurance is built to pay toward a mortgage balance if you die before it is paid off. We also help with retirement income planning, so the money you saved turns into a steady check.

    Term Life Insurance

Level-premium coverage for a set number of years, matched to your debts, your kids' ages and the policies you already have.

    Universal Life Insurance

Flexible lifelong coverage with adjustable premiums, plus a plain check on older universal life policies that may be running low on cash value.

Why Clients Call Us First

Plenty of people get told to drop an old policy and buy a new one. Sometimes that is right. Often it is not, and we will tell you which.

We read your old policy first
Bring us what you have: a group plan from work, an old whole life policy, a term policy bought years ago. We read the terms, the cash value and the riders before we suggest anything. You may only need more coverage on top, not a swap.
We explain when replacing makes sense
Some policies cost too much for what they do, or a universal life policy is running low on cash value. In those cases a new policy can be the better call. We show you the numbers side by side so you can see why.
No new surrender charges by accident
Dropping a policy can trigger surrender charges, a new contestability period and higher rates because you are older now. We point those out before you sign anything, not after.
Who gets paid, double-checked
Old names on a policy cause real trouble later. Think of an ex-spouse still listed, or a child born after the policy was written who was never added. We review the named people on each policy and help you send any change to the carrier.
Short words, straight numbers
We use everyday language. If a term in your policy is confusing, we explain it until it is not.

Who We Are

Life Insurance Sunnyvale is a small agency with clients across Sunnyvale and the rest of the South Bay. Families, single parents, business owners and retirees come to us when they want coverage that will hold up when it counts.

Our habit is simple. We look at what you already own before we sell you anything. A lot of people carry a decent policy that just needs a higher amount, a new beneficiary or a rider. When the old policy really does not fit anymore, we say so and show you the math.

Where We Work

We help clients across Sunnyvale and the towns around it, including Santa Clara, Mountain View, Cupertino, Los Altos and Loyola. We also work with people in Palo Alto, Campbell, Milpitas, Fremont and Newark.

How Working With Us Goes

Most clients go from first call to a policy in hand in a few weeks. Here are the steps.

  1. 1

A phone call about your needs

We ask who depends on your income, what debts you carry and what coverage you already have. Plan on about 20 minutes.

  2. 2

A look at your current policies

If you own a policy, we read it with you. We tell you whether to keep it, adjust it, add to it or replace it, and why.

  3. 3

    Options in writing

You get a short written comparison of the choices that fit, with the coverage amount, length and premium for each. No pressure to pick that day.

  4. 4

    Application and underwriting

We go through the application questions together so nothing gets missed. Larger policies may call for a quick paramedical exam, usually handled by a nurse wherever and whenever works for you. While the carrier reviews your file, we keep you updated.

  5. 5

    Reading the issued policy together

Once the carrier issues your policy, we walk through it with you section by section. We also confirm every beneficiary is listed exactly as you asked.

Questions Clients Ask Us

Something not covered here? (408) 827-9678

Should I replace my old policy with a new one?

Not always. An older policy was priced at a younger age, and its contestability period is usually over. Replacing it can mean higher rates and new surrender charges. We compare both side by side and tell you plainly which one comes out ahead.

What is the difference between term life and whole life?

Term life covers you for a set number of years, often 10, 20 or 30, and then ends. Whole life covers you for life and builds cash value, so it costs more. Many people use term life while kids are young and the mortgage is big, then keep a smaller permanent policy later.

Is the life insurance from my job enough?

Usually not on its own. Group coverage is often one or two times your salary, and it typically ends or gets expensive when you leave the job. We look at what your employer plan gives you and figure out whether a personal policy should sit on top of it.

How much coverage do I need?

Start with your debts, your mortgage balance, future costs like college, and how many years your family would need your income. Subtract savings and coverage you already have. We run through that math with you on the phone so the number is based on your life, not a rule of thumb.

Will I have to take a medical exam?

It hinges on your age, your health and the size of the policy. Many smaller policies are approved after a phone interview and a check of your records, with no needles. Larger amounts often require a short exam with a blood sample. If you need one, we help set it up.

How long does it take to get a policy?

Simple policies can be approved in days. Policies that need an exam or medical records usually take a few weeks. We give you a realistic timeline when you apply and check in as it moves along.

Does a quote cost anything?

No. Quotes and policy reviews are free. You pay nothing unless you choose a policy and it is approved.
